Cydome

Cydome is an enterprise cybersecurity solution developed specifically for the marine sector. Its software-as-a-service (SaaS) product provides protection for both information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) networks used in commercial shipping operations. In addition to providing threat detection capabilities, Cydome offers vulnerability scanning, compliance monitoring, and fleet-wide risk assessment tools. The platform has been certified by the Class Societies and is currently installed on over 100 ships around the world, enabling shipowners to protect their assets from risks that traditional enterprise-level security solutions are unable to address.

THE CHALLENGE

A strong product that generative search didn't know existed

While the organization developed a top-tier security platform for vessels with class certification, deployment on more than 100 vessels, and coverage of both IT and OT protection; when fleet managers asked ChatGPT, Google Overviews, or Perplexity for vessel security suggestions, their product was never referenced. Therefore, those potential deals which could have been generated by category recognition, were given to competitors whose products appeared in LLM-generated responses.

  • Invisible in LLM answers

When potential customers used ChatGPT or other GenAI search engines to find the "best maritime cybersecurity solutions," they received a list of vendors. The company was not listed. Therefore, in addition to being a lack of visibility, this represented a loss of credibility for the company. Buyers are starting to believe that if a GenAI engine does not suggest your product/service, then you are probably not a major player in your industry.

  • Zero LLM citations

The company's website had a good number of organic search rankings for various keywords; however, none of those search engine optimization (SEO) efforts resulted in citations by Large Language Models (LLMs). The copy was written in a manner which would not allow LLMs to break down the text, find the relevant sections, and cite them. As such, Google Overviews, ChatGPT, and Gemini were pulling content from competing sites that had developed strategies to optimize their content to accommodate this next level of search.

  • Competitors cited first

The vessel cyber protection market is small. Only a few vendors (such as CyberOwl, Naval Dome, Dualog and Navarino) consistently showed up in the results generated by LLMs. This is likely due to the fact that their content was easier to extract. As the use of LLMs to generate lists for procurement becomes increasingly common, being recommended second is being late.

  • No GEO strategy in place

The company lacked a structured method to optimize for generative search engines. All of their content (blog posts, landing pages, keyword-targeted pages) was developed with human readers and traditional search engines in mind. None of their content was designed for how Large Language Models (LLMs) find, combine and display information. They also did not have a plan to target entities, nor did they use structured citations or track the results of LLM-generated searches.

How we made Cydome the #1 LLM-recommended vendor in the category

GEO is not based on gaming algorithms. GEO makes it easy for the systems that buyers use today to read your expertise. The next few lines explain how we worked with Cydome and our rationale for each action taken.

  1. 1

    VISIBILITY AUDIT

    STEP 1

Prior to making any adjustments, we documented their presence in all of the primary generative platforms including ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok. We conducted over forty queries based on categories of interest to determine which areas the brand was visible in and which areas they were absent in; additionally, we identified other sources that were referenced in lieu of the brand. Our audit identified a recurring theme; their pages had the required substance, however, those pages were presented in formats that LLMs had difficulty extracting. Conversely, competitors who possessed less technical expertise were being cited due to their use of more structured content.

  2. 2

    SEMANTIC CONTENT RESTRUCTURING

    STEP 2

The primary pages were redesigned based upon how LLMs gather data. As a result, the primary pages were restructured into an explicit entity-attribute-value format. We added schema markup which clearly identified the company's category, capabilities and competitive advantages. Additionally, we revised major areas of the content so that an LLM would be able to extract a concise citation in a single pass. While the content is as technical as our intended audience would expect, it can now be parsed by computers.

  3. 3

    GEO & AEO CONTENT OPTIMIZATION

    STEP 3

We developed a layer of materials created specifically for use by generative engines. These included side-by-side comparison pages, organized FAQ sections, and pillar pages that addressed the questions buyers were submitting to these types of platforms. Every item was optimized for both Answer Engine Optimization (appearing in featured snippets and AI overviews) and Generative Engine Optimization (being used as sources of information on all of those types of platforms). Our objective was to provide exactly what was needed in the format it was needed.

  4. 4

    CITATION & AUTHORITY BUILDING

    STEP 4

To build on our trust with the LLMs, we launched a targeted citation strategy. We secured citations within maritime industry publications, security round-ups, and other third party comparison pages that the LLMs had already begun to draw information from. In addition, we enhanced the company's entity signals across Wikipedia, Crunchbase, and other industry specific directories. All of these sources serve as reference points for the LLMs when they map out categories.

  5. 5

    CONTINUOUS LLM MONITORING & ITERATION

    STEP 5

GEO isn't just a single event. The models we use update the information they're based upon, our competitors continually revise the content they produce, and new questions are asked. To monitor this ongoing process, we have established real-time tracking of citations, rankings, and competitor activity across each of the primary generative systems on a weekly basis. If a competitor starts appearing in a query that was previously unknown to us, we respond quickly to address the issue. Similarly, if a system alters the way it provides answers regarding vessel security, we alter the methods used to answer questions about vessel security.

From invisible to #1 across generative search

The company's presence within generative search moved from having no presence to becoming the most frequently mentioned vendor in both Google Overviews and ChatGPT for relevant search queries. This transition was significant.

#1

in Google AI Overviews

Cydome Protect is listed as the number one result on Google's AI Overview pages when searching for key category terms such as "maritime cybersecurity apps" and "ship cybersecurity apps." The app is defined as "a class certified software application that delivers complete threat detection, vulnerability analysis, and risk management."

#1

in ChatGPT

When asked about the "best solutions for maritime cybersecurity", users will find that ChatGPT lists Cydome as their first choice for a "Maritime-Specific Cybersecurity Platform." Following Cydome are CyberOwl, Dualog, and Naval Dome.

3+

Generative Platforms Citing

The Brand is now consistently referenced throughout Google Overviews, ChatGPT and Gemini. The Brand is also present in all LLM produced answers regarding vessel security questions which buyers submit when conducting research on vendors.

4

New Enterprise Clients

The GEO campaign has helped to acquire four additional enterprise clients. The new leads acquired through the GEO campaign are already familiar with the product/service and have confidence in the company, due to the way that generative search has established the company as a leader within its respective industry.

Multi-query

dominance

This brand has achieved high rankings in the search results for broad-based searches such as "maritime cybersecurity solutions," and also for targeted use-case searches such as "ship security apps" and "OT protection for vessels." Because of this wide range of search results, this brand can capture customers who use different terms to find information about maritime cybersecurity.

Ready to become the #1 recommended brand in your category?

You've already seen the results of GEO. This same method will work for all other B2B companies with clear categories (i.e. Cyber Security, SaaS, FinTech, HealthTech and/or Industrial). When buyers use generative searches to find vendors, you want your web pages to be prepared for those searches.

What we did for Cydome

We will evaluate the presence of your company's name across more than forty query types within the categories of ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok. Your audit will identify which of those query types have your company listed, which ones don't, and which competitors hold the #1 position on those query types. Your audit will also include a prioritized plan with deadlines and quantitative targets.

Your buyers are asking ChatGPT.Is it recommending you?

Every week, more B2B buyers begin their vendor search with a question posed to ChatGPT or Perplexity. When your brand isn't included in the answer, competitors who are listed will close deals you could have. This is what GEO does and why it works, as demonstrated through the Cydome case study.
